Nous voilà déjà rendues au cinquième tome de la série contemporaine Colorado High Country ! Ce nouvel opus porte sur Joe et Rain, qui se tournent autour depuis pas moins de vingt ans ...

En effet, Rain a débarqué dans le bar de Joe toutes ces années plus tôt, à peine sortie de l'adolescence, avec un tout petit bébé sous le bras, en quête d'un travail et d'un toit. Âgé de dix ans de plus qu'elle, Joe prend immédiatement Rain sous son aile et passera les vingt prochaines années à veiller sur elle, ainsi que sur sa fille Lark.

On a vu Rain et Joe se lancer des regards en douce dans les autres tomes, et on sait qu'ils sont amoureux l'un de l'autre depuis deux décennies, du coup, il n'est pas surprenant qu'entre eux tout aille finalement très vite, enfin, une fois que Joe a fini par ouvrir les yeux, et dans le genre têtu, il est plutôt doué !

Nous avons donc là une romance toute douce, bien dans l'esprit cocooning des romances de Noël, avec une ambiance romantique et magique, idéale en période de Fêtes, même si j'avoue que le roman manque pour moi de relief (mais bon une romance de Noël c'est toujours doudou-esque à souhait, non ?).

En parallèle de la romance, on lit le journal d'un ancêtre de Joe, Silas Moffat, un pourri de la pire espèce ! Néanmoins, il est intéressant de découvrir le passé de la ville, de voir un peu le mode de vie des pionniers, dans toute sa rudesse et son injustice.

Une jolie lecture de Noël donc, légère, sucrée et très romantique.

Simply put, Ms. Clare is a fabulous author and this series is an all-round winner...

Pamela is my absolute favourite contemporary romance author. Her books always please, and this, our fifth visit to Scarlet Springs, is a truly wonderful Christmas read. With each visit, we learn a little more about the town, its people, its history. In Close to Heaven, we experience this close-knit community as Christmas approaches and a heavy fall of snow blankets the town. We see again how the people of Scarlet Springs come together to help when help is needed. I’m completely enchanted by Scarlet Springs, its people and their stories.

Readers who have followed the series have known Joe and Rain since day one. In Close to Heaven we get up close and personal with the couple as they reach a crossroads in their lives. Both have had tough times to deal with in the past, albeit for very different reasons. They have known each other, worked together, he as her boss, and have been friends together for twenty years. Rain knows she loves Joe. And everyone in Scarlet Springs knows Joe loves Rain...except Joe! His reasons for refusing to accept that he both wants and needs Rain are deeply rooted in a past that, as we learn of it, is both shocking and tragic.

This is an extremely well written, often humorous, sometimes sizzling hot, story. I recommend that you read it to discover for yourself how these two delightful people finally come together.

This is not a story to be missed.

In Scarlet Springs it’s three weeks till Christmas and the town is hunkering down for a storm that will be dumping 3-5 feet of snow on top of what they already have. Joe Moffat is shutting down Knockers, his brewery pub, early to let his staff get home. One in particular is on his mind. Rain Minear, has been his employee for twenty years, now his general manager. She came to him as a seventeen year old, with a new baby and no skills. He took her on out of the goodness of his heart, but now she pretty much owns it. She is ten years younger, his trusted employee and in his mind,it can’t go anywhere else. All of his friends and staff think he’s crazy, she’s a beautiful woman who cares about him. What is he thinking? I felt the same way. Wanted to shake him a time or two.

Rain Minear has loved Joe for years, but he doesn’t seem to want to move past their friendship. She is now an empty nester, her daughter Lark in college and Rain is restless. It feels like she is wasting her life, a love that can’t go anywhere, and as much as she loves her job, thinks she needs a change. But her life is about to take a very different turn, if she survives.

This story is further enhanced by a journal found by Rain about Joe’s ancestors and the history of the town itself. I felt it added depth and a very interesting look at the characters we have met in Scarlet Springs. So great to be able to catch up on their lives. The romance is slow and sensual, and I cheered at their first kiss. The characters are old friends and laughter and a tear or two are part of the story. So loved spending this holiday in Scarlet Springs!

I only wish this Novella could have lasted longer! I think its safe to say that Joe and Rain are my favourite Scarlett Springs couple so far! This was a perfect Christmas read (even if it is currently October) and nobody does these heartfelt contemporary romances better than Pamela Clare! Bravo!

Love this writer and just absolutely adore this series of a small town Colorado community. There are few writers that accomplish me wanting to visit and meet her characters. Start from the beginning and then continue to this one, a pure gem. Love it!

I laughed, i cried and can't wait for the next one. Pamela's love for her characters shine through with each and every story she brings to life.
